Morelli’s Ice-Cream in Lurgan is on the move! What started with an intense craving for Belgium Chocolate Ice Cream during pregnancy has quickly become a thriving locally owned family business. Now, Mark and Carla Setchfield, the husband and wife team behind the business are setting up shop in new bigger and brighter premises in Union Street in the town.
After finding herself unemployed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Carla, a new mother faced an even bigger challenge. After their son was diagnosed with Cows Milk Protein Allergy, Carla and Mark were determined to find a solution. The pair wanted to find a brand that not only offered mouthwatering ice cream but also catered to various dietary needs. After carrying market research the pair identified Morelli’s ice cream as a potential solution as the brand offered dairy-free and vegan options.
With a desire to bring the brand to town, Carla set out looking for premises initially in Moira. “We just couldn’t find anywhere suitable” says Carla. “I always wanted a sit-in I suppose you could say it was top of my menu. Premises were hard to find and also the leases were crazy. As a small family business we needed something that would allow us to dip our toe in the market to see if there was an appitite”.
Opening in 2022, previously located in Edward Street in the town, Morelli’s has gone from strength to strength. “We have simply outgrown the premises in two years and we are so excited to open our new larger store”
What makes Morelli’s even more special is that it’s a small, family-owned business. Carla and Mark have poured their hearts and souls into making Morelli’s a beloved local gem. Admitting to be entirely self-taught in the art of running an ice cream parlor the pair have embraced the challenge head-on. Through their passion, determination, and countless hours of experimentation, they have created a truly exceptional ice cream experience for the local community.

Speaking to UrbanABC Carla announces “we are also introducing a new whippy machine. One of the things we noticed from our customers in everyone enjoys eating the ice-cream in a different way. Adults are more partial to a tub with sauce which kids loved the cone with sprinkles. It’s all personal preference. What we love seeing is the diverse range of customers, we have a broad customer base from 9 – 90 years of age”.

Morelli’s welcomes ice cream enthusiasts from Monday to Thursday, between 2pm and 9 pm, and Friday to Sunday, from 2pm to 10pm until new staff are fully trained, when opening hours are likely to increase.
