Millennium Court had the pleasure of hosting the grand opening of the “People of Portadown” teens graffiti exhibition on Saturday 9th March. This incredible event was a highlight of the facilities 30th anniversary celebrations and showcased the town’s rich history, vibrant culture, and the amazing individuals who call Portadown home.

Special Guests Add Excitement to the Festivities

Esteemed guests like Dame Mary Peters, Adam Carroll, and Nathan Anthony from Bored Lunch joined staff at the opening. Their presence added an extra touch of excitement to the festivities. The exhibition itself was a true celebration of the town and its people, aiming to challenge stereotypes and elevate the narratives surrounding Portadown.

The event was graced by the presence of notable figures, including Lord Mayor Margaret Tinsley, MLA Doug Beattie, and local councillors Julie Flaherty and Kate Evans.

Dame Mary Peters, a true inspiration, officially opened the exhibition with a captivating message to the young audience, urging them to dream big and pursue their passions. Her words resonated deeply, emphasising the importance of both artistic expression and sports in shaping a fulfilling life.

“I hope that all you children will have the opportunity, as well as learning to paint to take part in sport. It has allowed me to have the most extraordinary life, so dream big and always follow your dreams”.

Showcasing Portadown’s Rich History and Vibrant Culture

The “People of Portadown” project is a powerful initiative that aims to celebrate the diverse talents and accomplishments of local residents. Through their bold and vibrant graffiti pieces, the talented participants have beautifully captured the essence of the town and its people.

If you haven’t had a chance to see the exhibition yet, don’t worry as it will be on display until Saturday 20th April. You can visit Millennium Court from Monday to Friday, between 10am and 4pm, to immerse yourself in the incredible artwork and stories that make up the fabric of Portadown.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Assets Recovery Scheme for their generous funding, which made this project possible.
