Fireworks are not toys, they can cause injury and distress to vulnerable and elderly people, family pets and animals.

Follow our top tips to keep your pets safe!

  • Keep dogs and cats indoors when fireworks are likely to be set off.
  • Give your dog or cat somewhere safe to hide and make sure they can’t escape if there is a sudden noise.
  • Close curtains at night and put on relaxing music to mask the noise of the fireworks.
  • Don’t forget small animals: provide lots of bedding so they have something to burrow in and partly cover pens with blankets to sound proof an area.

Help the vulnerable to stay safe and happy at home

  • If you know of someone vulnerable living nearby, let them know of the Halloween Festival taking place at South Lake Leisure Centre at 7pm with the fireworks display scheduled to take place at 7.30pm.
  • Close the curtains and create a calming environment to drown out the noise.
  • If they are coming along to the parade and fireworks, make sure to wrap up warm and bring a flask with a hot drink.
