Tell us a bit about yourself and the business.
“My name is Rachel McCann, and I’m the Shop Manager here at High Street Harvest. I actually started here 13 years ago as a part-time retail assistant, and I loved it so much I never left! It’s a real pleasure to be part of this team.
“High Street Harvest is a family-run farm shop right in the heart of Lurgan. What makes us special is that we farm from the town itself, using fields in the surrounding area. We grow much of our own produce, ensuring it’s as fresh as possible. We’ve been a part of the town since 2002, and we’re proud to be here.”
How did the business start?
“Jonathan (my partner) and I had just finished university and knew we wanted a hands-on job that was connected to the land.
“Jonathan was a farmer at heart, but we also knew that traditional farming alone wouldn’t be sustainable for us in the long run.
“So, the idea of a farm shop combined with farming seemed like the perfect solution – we could grow our own produce and sell it directly to the community.”
Why is shopping local so important?
“It’s absolutely essential! Fresh produce from the local area is not only healthier but often more affordable too. There’s a world of difference between homegrown, seasonal produce and mass-produced items that have travelled miles. Supporting local businesses like ours also helps to keep the community thriving.”
What do you love most about your town?
“Definitely the community. The people here are what make Lurgan so special.
“We live and work in the town, so we’re fully invested in its success and well-being.”
