How did the business start?
“Gordons Chemists is one of Northern Ireland’s largest independently owned pharmacy chains. Established in 1980 by brothers Neil and Robert Gordon, the business has grown from a single pharmacy in Donaghadee into a trusted name in health, beauty, and wellbeing with 55 stores across Northern Ireland.
“The Portadown store was opened on 1 November 1996 in the High Street Mall – where it remains today”.
Why is shopping local so important
“Shopping locally is vital for the development and vibrancy of our community here in Portadown. When customers choose to shop at Gordons Chemists, they’re not only receiving expert advice and trusted products – they’re also helping to support local jobs and ensure the high street remains active and welcoming.
“Local shopping helps keep our town centre alive, encourages meaningful connections between businesses and customers, and allows us to reinvest directly into the Portadown community, which also enriches the appearance of the town.
“At Gordons Chemists Portadown, we’re proud to be part of the local community, serving generations of families and helping keep our town thriving”.
What do you love most about your town?
“What I love most about Portadown is its strong sense of community and resilience. The town has a proud heritage, friendly people, and a high street full of character.
“Whether it’s the warm conversations with customers at our pharmacy counter or the support we receive from local residents and other businesses, there’s a spirit of togetherness that makes Portadown special”.
“The town is constantly evolving, but at its heart, it remains a close-knit place where people genuinely care for one another, and that’s something worth celebrating. The warmth of people makes it a local town to be proud of”.
