Residents of Lurgan are invited to participate in the upcoming public consultation regarding the proposed redevelopment of Lurgan Train Station which is located on the town main thoroughfare, William Street.
This initiative which has long been anticipated aims to enhance the current station and introduce a new, upgraded Park and Ride facility with increased capacity to better serve the community.
The £20m redevelopment project will involve the demolition of the existing station building and the adjacent Musgrave Marketplace building. This will pave the way for a new railway passenger facility in Lurgan.
In 2o20 additional land to the side of the current Train Station was acquired by Translink. Speaking at the time the then Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said;
“Now that Translink have acquired additional land on the town side of the railway line, plans can now be developed to business case.
“Lurgan is a key station for commuters, with over 4.5million passengers using the Portadown line every year and nearly 1 million passengers using the cross-border Belfast to Dublin Enterprise service.
Now Translink is set to hold two public consultations in the town.
Members of the project team will be present at these events to provide insights and answer any questions related to the redevelopment plans. This consultation is part of a Pre-Application Community Consultation process that will take place prior to the submission of a planning application. All buildings and event spaces will be accessible to wheelchair users.
