Autobits Motorstore, a family-owned business in Armagh for over 40 years, is embarking on an exciting new chapter as it prepares to relocate from its iconic Cathedral Road location to the new Gillis Business Park. The legacy of Autobits Motorstore, known by various names throughout the years, including ‘Seamie’s’ and ‘McDonagh’s,’ has been deeply intertwined with the fabric of Armagh’s community.

The tale of Autobits Motorstore dates back to 1980 when the late Seamie McDonagh laid the foundation for a motor parts store in Armagh. Supported by his close friend, the late Francie McCusker, the business blossomed, with Francie’s unwavering dedication playing a pivotal role in shaping Autobits’ success. Their enduring friendship and hard work set the stage for the business’s growth and evolution.

Now Autobits Motorstore is gearing up for a new chapter at Gillis Business Park, marking a significant re-development of Gillis Yard off the Loughgall Road.

Nestled along the Loughgall Road, the newly unveiled Gillis Business Park emerges as a beacon of modernity and innovation in commercial development. This state-of-the-art hub boasts a collection of contemporary business units, strategically positioned on the city’s periphery, a mere stone’s throw away from Autobits’ existing location.

The proximity to Autobits’ current premises not only ensures convenience but also signifies a significant evolution in the business landscape of the area.

New Beginnings

Speaking to UrbanABC Mairead McDonagh said, “For over four decades, our family run business has been a steadfast presence in the heart of Armagh. Our original location on Cathedral Road, where the Mulberry Bistro is now, to our current home, we’ve always remained committed to our community.

“For my husband Marty and the whole family, Autobits isn’t just a job but a lifelong journey filled with dedication, hard work, and a deep connection to the community we serve”.

Like most businesses, Autobits Motorstore has had to adapt to changing climates and economic challenges. No doubt resilience was required in navigating through tough times, with Mairead citing historical challenges like the Troubles in the early eighties and the Covid-19 amongst some of the toughest to navigate. Despite these obstacles, the McDonagh family underscores the importance of adaptability in ensuring a business’s survival and success in today’s ever-changing landscape.

As Marty and Mairead, alongside the rest of the Autobits family, steers the business towards a new era, they remain committed to upholding its legacy of quality service and community engagement. The upcoming relocation signifies a bold step towards growth and innovation while preserving the core values that have defined Autobits Motorstore throughout the years.

“After taking the reins from his father, Marty has navigated the business through times of change, ensuring that the legacy of Autobits Motorstore continues to thrive while embracing growth and innovation and this move marks an exciting new phase in our journey.

“Thank you for your unwavering support over the years. While we may be changing locations, our commitment to quality service and community spirit remains stronger than ever”.
