The aim of a place plan is to improve and enhance an area’s cultural, social, environmental and economic landscape while bringing its communities together to make it an even better place to live, work and play.
What’s the background of the Armagh Place Plan?
The Armagh Place Plan was launched by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Community Planning Partnership in May 2022, and is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland.
The vision developed through the plan for the future of the city has been created by an in-depth process of research, expert in-put and community engagement.
Celebrating our Stars and Stories
Entitled ‘Celebrating our Stars and Stories’, the goal of the plan is to create a deeper connection between Armagh’s people and its inspiring places and spaces.
However, instead of analysing the geography of the city as a first step – as is usually the way with urban planning programmes – the Armagh Place Plan has put its people at the heart of the place-making process.
Creative community engagement meetings – with lots of brilliant brainstorming – took place and resulted in the vision for the city that’s now ready to be put into development.
The four key themes for development are:
?A connected city
?A greener city
?An engaged city
? A healthy city
What happens next?
The plan will now be taken forward as a shared agenda for the city, aligning with local strategies and the key aims of the regional Community Plan.
The carefully considered next steps will then act as a framework for Armagh’s organisations and individuals wanting to bring about this exciting vision for Armagh’s future.
Exciting times ahead!
