BBC teams across Northern Ireland are calling on the residents of Armagh City, Banbridge, and Craigavon Borough to shine a light on their local heroes for the ‘Make a Difference Awards.’
This year, for the first time, the awards will cover the entire UK. BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Foyle are leading the charge, joining forces with stations like BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio Wales, and BBC Radio nan Gaidheal in the hunt for community champions. All 39 local BBC radio stations in England will also take part in this annual celebration of kindness.
Two exciting new categories have been introduced this year: ‘The Young Hero Award’, aimed at recognising an individual under 16 who has made a meaningful impact in their community, and ‘The Active Award’, which will honour individuals or groups who have harnessed physical activity or sport to enhance the lives of those around them.
Nominations are now open, with Kevin Duala from BBC Radio Merseyside kicking things off live on The One Show. Morning Live will again support the ‘Community Group Award’.
Listeners can nominate their local heroes across eight categories. Since the awards began in 2022, thousands have come forward to celebrate those who go above and beyond for their communities. The aim is to highlight these everyday, unsung heroes. Nominations close at 5pm on Monday, 31st March.

It’s a wonderful celebration of the human spirit, and I can’t wait to hear the remarkable stories of those nominated.”
