NI Water’s project contractor, BSG, is making significant strides in the installation of a new large sewer beneath Meadow Lane in Portadown. The upcoming phase of open-cut pipelaying operations, scheduled for Monday 10th June marks a crucial step in this intricate process. To facilitate this essential work, a portion of Meadow Lane near the entrance of Portadown Boat Club will be temporarily closed to traffic for approximately four weeks.
This development stands as a cornerstone of the ongoing £7.8m Meadow Lane Wastewater Upgrade initiative, aimed at fostering environmental improvements and driving economic growth in the Portadown region.
The forthcoming open-cut work will be concentrated in the vicinity of the Portadown Boat Club entrance on Meadow Lane. For the safety of all involved, Meadow Lane will be inaccessible to through traffic between the boat club entrance and the health center’s service entrance for the duration of the four-week period.
Diversions
Motorists will be directed along designated diversion routes during this time. Properties in the area, including the boat club, will utilise the Bridge Street – Meadow Lane route for access. Meanwhile, access to the health center and Baptist Church car park will be redirected through Thomas Street – Tavanagh Avenue. Clear signposts will guide drivers along these diversion routes.
While pedestrian access to the area will be maintained, some pedestrian management measures may be necessary. Businesses in the vicinity will continue operations as usual, with access unaffected by the ongoing works.
In terms of safety precautions, NI Water emphasises the potential hazards of construction sites, particularly for unauthorized individuals, especially children. Cooperation in ensuring that children do not play in or around the construction site is vital. Warning signs will be prominently displayed to safeguard the public from any potential risks. It is advised for the public to refrain from entering the working areas for their own safety.
