Runners with a local Athletics club have been enduring rigorous training in preparation for County Armagh’s largest running event.

Now in it’s third year Portadown Running Club will host the Portadown Running Festival on 23rd March 2025.

This year, Portadown Running Club are thrilled to introduce a new 5k race option alongside the popular 10k and Half Marathon distances.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting out, the fast, flat, and safe route has something for ever athletic level.

Races will take place at the spacious Portadown Rugby Club grounds, where participants can expect a warm welcome and a vibrant atmosphere.

The scenic route follows the beautiful Bann River towpath loop towards Gilford, making for an enjoyable running experience. Building on the success of previous events, Portadown Running Club anticipate a high turnout.

A spokesperson for the club said; “Building on the success of previous years, we know this will be a very popular event in the running calendar and due to the demand last year we have increased our numbers to a maximum of 2000 runners taking part”.

Conveniently located, the starting line is just a short five-minute walk from ample parking. While there is no parking available at the rugby club itself, participants can take advantage of nearby facilities for bag drop and changing.

With over £3,000 in prize money up for grabs, awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each race, as well as the first place in each category.

All runners will receive a unique Portadown Running Festival medal and a running buff. The first 1,400 registrants for the Half Marathon and 10k will also snag one of our sought-after technical tops, so be sure to register early.

“We are a small club and offer this race to the running community to encourage people to get out and run, not for profit. Our ambition, alongside our sponsors, is to cover our costs and make charitable donations from the profits raised chosen by our membership. In 2024 we supported NI Cancer Fund for Children and Craigavon Samaritans”.

All entries are postal, and participants should select either the Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland postal options when registering. Bib collection will not be available, and if you’re entering multiple runners, each bib will be sent separately, so ensure all participants cover the postage.

As per Athletics NI regulations, the minimum age for entry to the 5k race is 11 years on race day; 10k – 15 years on race day and 17 on race day for the Half Marathon, younger runners than these stated ages will not be able to take part.
