NI Water and their project team from McAdam and BSG have reached a key milestone in the Meadow Lane, Portadown Wastewater Upgrade Project.

With the new pumping station constructed, the teams are ready to start commissioning the new assets installed as part of this major NI Water investment to improve the wastewater infrastructure serving this area of Portadown.

The initial phase of the commissioning process involves directing flows from the new large diameter sewer into the pumping station. This work is weather-dependent and will necessitate traffic management on short sections of Meadow Lane from mid-February through the end of March.

The first section of work will take place on Meadow Lane, right next to the service area of the health centre, starting the week of Monday 17th February.

During this time, the north-bound lane of Meadow Lane and the adjacent footpath will be closed for approximately one week. However, access to the main Healthcare Centre Car Park will remain available from both Thomas Street and Bridge Street.

For residents of Meadow Lane between Bridge Street and the entrance to Portadown Boat Club, access will be granted only from the Bridge Street direction.

Following this initial phase, and depending on favorable weather conditions, the commissioning works will shift to the Meadow Lane/Portmore Street area, the access road to Meadow Lane East Car Park, and finally to Tavanagh Avenue, adjacent to the Baptist Church Car Park, around mid-March.

Each section of work is expected to take no longer than a week to complete, and clear signage will be provided to guide motorists through the changes.

Schedule of works:

Section 1: w/c 17/02/2025 – 1 week adjacent to the service area of the health centre.

NI Water expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their ongoing support, stating, “As we enter this critical phase of the project, NI Water, BSG, and McAdam are thankful to the local community, the wider public, and other stakeholders for their continued patience and backing during this major upgrade of the wastewater network.

“Once fully operational by summer 2025, this important NI Water initiative will significantly reduce the risk of sewer flooding, support local development, and provide extensive environmental benefits in the Portadown area.”
