Sensory gardens, litter picks, tree planting and new pollinator spaces are among the varied range of environmental projects in the ABC Borough, which have been granted funding from the Live Here Love Here Small Grants scheme.

In total, 17 community groups have been awarded grants of between £500 and £5,000 from the charity, to help improve their local areas through a range of diverse initiatives.

Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough, Cllr Sarah Duffy congratulated all those who have been successful in the funding programme.

She said: “Improving our environment has really become a top priority and it is inspiring to see just how many groups we have here in the ABC Borough, who are all determined to make a positive difference in their own communities.

“I would like to congratulate them on the funding award from Live Here Love Here who do great work in encouraging people into action and I look forward to seeing the final result of these great projects.”

Among the winners are the recently formed Tidy Banbridge who say they plan to use their funding to purchase equipment for regular tidy-ups across different locations in the town, with participation from local residents, and groups including Banbridge Youth Resource Centre.

In Dromore, the Higher Ground group plan to work with the eco club at the local High School and other community organisations and volunteers in order to sow, propagate, plant and nurture plants that can be used in the renovated community spaces in the town.

The other groups from ABC Borough which have been awarded funding are: Castle Street Gardeners Project; Singing Kettle; Shankill Community Projects; Christian Brothers’ PS Armagh; Markethill District Enterprises Ltd Community Garden; LLTCA; Portadown Wellness Centre; Clann Éireann Youth Club; Ardress Regeneration Group; St Mark’s Parish Community Association; First Portadown Presbyterian Church Creation Carers Group; City of Armagh High School; Sarsfields Community Hall Management Committee; Bleary Community Group; Shankill Street Community Garden.
