A well-established travel agency and tour operator based in Portadown, is set to host an exciting travel showcase at the Seagoe Hotel on 7th January.
Founded in 1992 by Maurice Thompson, Thompson Travel International has grown from its humble beginnings on Tandragee’s Main Street to its current location at Kernan Shops on Lurgan Road in Portadown.
This family-run business has a rich history and a strong commitment to building lasting relationships with its customers.
Maurice Thompson laid the foundation for what would become a beloved local travel agency. His vision, alongside daughter Sharon, was to create a place where travellers could find personalised service and expert advice and for over 20 years that was achieved from a small premises located in Tandragee.
Sadly, Maurice passed away in 2007, but his legacy lives on through his daughter, Sharon Thompson, and his grandson, Jason Calvin.
Together, they have continued to uphold the core values of the business: integrity, trust, and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
Sharon has been an integral part of the business for over 30 years, ensuring that the business remains a pillar in the community.
Jason, now a Director, has embraced his role in the family business and is passionate about maintaining the strong relationships that have been built over the years.
Speaking to UrbanABC Jason explains. “We believe in treating everyone with respect and providing them with the best travel experiences possible. Our customers are like family to us”
The upcoming travel showcase at the Seagoe Hotel promises to be a fantastic event for both seasoned travellers and those looking for inspiration for their next holiday.
Scheduled from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM, the event will feature over 45 travel companies representing every corner of the globe. Attendees can expect a wealth of holiday inspiration, whether they are seeking a relaxing beach getaway, a luxurious escorted tour, a fun family vacation, or even a romantic honeymoon.
In addition to meeting the various travel companies and exploring exclusive offers, guests can participate in a range of activities throughout the evening.
A charity raffle will be held in aid of Kidney Care UK, and there will be a special competition hosted by Jet2 Holidays. Live entertainment is also scheduled for 7:15 PM, promising an enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees.
The event will kick off with an exclusive session for Women’s Institute members at 4:45 PM, followed by a series of informative presentations.
At 5:30 PM, Thompson Travel will present on escorted touring, offering insights into the best ways to explore new destinations. This will be followed by a session at 6:15 PM focused on Battlefield Tours, highlighting significant sites from WWI and WWII. Finally, at 6:45 PM, there will be a discussion on cruising options, including ocean, river, and expedition cruises.
Jason emphasises the importance of this event not just for the agency but for the community as well. “We want to bring people together and share our love for travel,” he says.
“This showcase is a chance for us to connect with our customers and introduce them to new experiences that they might not have considered before.”
This dedication was rewarded as Thompson Travel International which was proudly presented the prestigious “Family Business of the Year” at the 2024 Ulster Tatler Awards.

“Also, keep in mind that while the event will offer plenty of information and exclusive vouchers, there won’t be any pressure to buy. Our goal is to help you make an informed decision about the best holiday destination for you in 2025.”
