A true Co. Down community champion is leading a noble cause to raise funds for a new defibrillator to be stationed at the bustling Dromore Town Hall, right in the heart of the historical town.

Peter Branker, from Dromore has faced a lengthy and challenging fight against cancer, although his unwavering dedication to the local community has been an inspiration to many. Peter channels his energy into fundraising for research and extending a helping hand to those in need, actively working in a voluntary capacity with Air Ambulance NI, Simon Community and as a Telephone Befriender for Volunteer Now.

Now Peter’s efforts are being focused in his hometown in a bid to provide lifesaving equipment. The vital machine, designed to be accessible round the clock, is poised to significantly bolster the town’s emergency response capacity.

Peter’s unwavering commitment to fundraising and volunteering shines a spotlight on his tireless efforts to safeguard the well-being of Dromore’s residents. His initiative not only highlights the importance of preparedness and safety within the community but also underscores the power of grassroots movements in fostering a secure and resilient neighbourhood. By championing this cause, Peter Branker exemplifies the spirit of unity and care that defines Dromore, showcasing how individuals can make a tangible difference in enhancing the quality of life for all.

Speaking to UrbanABC Peter said, “the costs associated with the purchase and installation are around £2,400 but this is vital for the community. So far, the total raised is £1,300 however there is a long way to go so we really need the public’s support. It would be great if you could get a team together and come along to this quiz and help push towards the target. Ideally, we need another £1,000 to make it a reality sooner rather than later”.

Quiz Night Dromore

“This is a community effort and there are many people in the area behind it and I’m very grateful to everyone for their help. The reality is without a team of people working towards the funding this just wouldn’t happen”.

A quiz night set to be held in Mulholland’s on the Square in Dromore will take place on 6th September at 7:30pm. “I’ve just finished preparing the quiz and can guarantee you some interesting rounds. Something for everyone. This community defibrillator is only becoming a reality with your support. So far, I’m overwhelmed by your support. It has been truly amazing,” said Peter.
