Known by various names such as “Seamie’s”, “McDonagh’s”, and now Autobits Motorstore, this family-run business has been a steadfast presence in the heart of Armagh for over four decades.
Despite the evolving names, the business has stood as an enduring institution in the local community. The journey of Autobits Motorstore, traces back to the late Seamus McDonagh, who faced the initial challenges of establishing the motor parts store in Armagh. In the early ’80s, Seamus enlisted the help of a trusted friend and former colleague, the late Francie McCusker, marking a significant turning point for the business.
The narrative unfolds in March 1980 when the business operated from a different location on Cathedral Road, now occupied by the Mulberry Café. Francie’s pivotal role in supporting Seamie and the business for nearly four decades until his retirement in 2018 highlights the deep bonds within the Autobits family. Tragically, Francie’s passing in 2019 marked a poignant moment for the McDonagh and Autobits family, underscoring the profound impact of his presence.
For Marty, the business has been intertwined with his life from a young age, recalling memories of assisting his father on weekends and summers alongside his brother Ciaran. Following his father’s passing, Marty has steered the business through adaptation and expansion, honoring the legacy of Autobits Motorstore while embracing growth and innovation.
