Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful are thrilled to share the kickoff of the third year of the Tackling Textiles Skills and Innovation Grant.

This program, supported by the Department for Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs’ (DAERA) Waste Prevention Policy Branch through the Carrier Bag Levy, aims to assist local businesses and organizations in Northern Ireland in reducing textile waste by engaging in sustainable skills development and practices like reuse and repair.

The Tackling Textiles Skills and Innovation Grant provides funding ranging from £1,000 to £3,000 to back innovative projects focusing on textile repair, reuse, and waste prevention. By advocating for green skills and aiding local businesses in adopting sustainable practices, the grant strives to prolong the life of textile products, decrease waste, and integrate reuse and repair practices across the fashion and broader textiles industry.

Organizations eligible to apply for this grant include Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (under 250 employees), Social Enterprises, Charities, Not-for-Profit Organizations, Community and Voluntary groups.

Please note that the grant is not currently open to applications from councils, schools, higher education institutions, sports clubs, churches, youth groups, unconstituted groups, or large enterprises with over 250 employees.

The Tackling Textiles Skills and Innovation Grant supports projects that concentrate on waste prevention, reuse, repair, and reimagining. Waste Prevention projects involve financial support to develop innovative design strategies that minimize waste from the beginning. Reuse and Repair initiatives focus on extending product life by offering repair services or encouraging consumers to reuse items. Reimagine projects aim to develop forward-thinking initiatives addressing the entire product lifecycle, from production to post-consumer disposal, through take-back schemes, upcycling initiatives, and other innovative solutions.
