Love is in the air again.

Or at least that’s what all the heart-adorned greetings cards in our local shops are telling us.

Yes, we might only be just getting over the post-Christmas slump, but there’s a new festivity in town demanding our attention. Hello, Valentine’s Day!

We don’t know about you but in these dark and chilly months, we’ll take any chance to celebrate. So, whether you’re loved-up, happily single (or somewhere in between!) why not make this Feb 14th the perfect excuse to show yourself or someone else that you care.

Read on for gift and treat ideas we think you’ll love.

Send a card…

A V Day card need not be schmaltzy (although if you can’t be schmaltzy on Valentine’s Day…) it can be arty, funny or cool, and there are lots of places to pick up the perfect one in the borough.

Browse high street favourites, such Hallmark, Clintons Cards and Card Factory (and don’t forget the supermarkets and post offices) – which you’ll find in each of our six urban centres. Or head to an independent gift or bookshop, such as Country Choices, Hampers by Kim – and Bridge Books’ who have a small-but-perfectly-formed collection of V Day cards – all in Dromore. You’ll be spoilt for choice.

Say it with flowers

Nothing cheers up a room as much as a bloom. And flowers are a great, affordable way to make yourself or someone else feel special this V Day.

Our borough is bursting with independent florists, too. To name just a few, there’s:

? Karen Flowers and Personal Touch Florist and Millinery in Banbridge

? Sarah’s Flowers in Portadown

? O’Kane’s Flower Shop in Armagh City

? The Flower Boutique Florists – Lurgan

Hit the sweet spot

Sweet treats are always a winner on Feb 14. This year, why not share the love with your local confectionery businesses too? You’ll find independent chocolatiers in the borough, along with a bunch of candy connoisseurs, such as

Sweetez NI in Portadown and Selection Box and The Chocolate Parlour in Lurgan.

Or why not go off-piste and warm someone’s heart with a date at an ice cream parlour? There are so many to sample across Armagh City, Banbridge, Craigavon, Dromore, Lurgan and Portadown. We say: whether you’re grabbing a table for one, two or more, it’d be rude not to enjoy a sweet treat on Valentine’s Day!

Think outside the heart-shaped box…

How about treating that special somebody (yes that can mean you) to a fabulous trip away? Terra Travel, which has branches in Lurgan, Craigavon and Portadown, has some great deals on right now – from luxurious beach holidays to long weekends in New York.

But if you don’t fancy going too far or travelling for too long and still want adventure then check out Skelton Travel. This Lurgan company specialises in brilliant coach and day trips. Think football matches, musicals, horse racing and much more.

Happy Valentine’s to you all – however you choose to spend it this year!

Do you have any must-visit gift shops, florists or local businesses you love to treat yourself at in the borough?
