Millennium Court Arts Centre is thrilled to unveil the Belfast Paper Art Society’s exhibition on Saturday, September 14th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This much-anticipated event will shine a spotlight on the rich and diverse realm of paper art, featuring an array of Papier Mache sculptures, intricate collages, and large-scale mixed media pieces that are set to enchant visitors of all ages.
Dubbed “Paper Magic,” the exhibition pays homage to the versatility and ingenuity of paper as an artistic medium. In a heartfelt tribute to Portadown’s own pioneering artist, Ann Acheson, each participating artist has crafted new pieces inspired by her groundbreaking contributions. Ann Acheson’s legacy includes her vital role in medical history during World War I, where she played a pivotal part in developing the Papier Mache ‘Acheson Splint,’ a precursor to the modern plaster cast that revolutionized the healing process for broken limbs.
In conjunction with the main exhibition, Millennium Court is excited to host a series of engaging kids’ paper craft workshops to commemorate the launch of “Paper Magic.”
Mark your calendars for the Portadown Bird Park Kids Paper Craft Workshop:
– Date: Saturday, September 14, 2024
– Time: 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM
– Location: Millennium Court
Children will have the opportunity to unleash their creativity by crafting and coloring their very own paper birds, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of Portadown. Using specially designed templates, young participants will design their feathered friends and create trees for them to roost in, constructing a charming paper park that will be showcased during the exhibition’s grand opening.
This workshop promises to be a delightful experience for young minds, nurturing their artistic flair and fostering a deeper connection to the local environment. We extend a warm invitation to the community to come together and celebrate the art of paper and the enduring legacy of Ann Acheson at Millennium Court Arts Centre.
